The North Baltimore Aquatic Club (NBAC) made waves at the Maryland 14 & Under Championships, with Philip Scharper and Jude Burkhart shining brightly. Scharper, aged 11, and Burkhart, 14, both turned in several career-best times, showcasing the club's prowess in swimming. Scharper's standout performance included a 3rd-place finish in the 400 IM, shaving nearly six seconds off his previous best. He also claimed 2nd place in the 200 backstroke, demonstrating his versatility. Burkhart, on the other hand, dominated the meet, securing nine wins and nine career-best swims. His 15:35.98 in the 1650 free not only set a new personal best but also moved him up to a tie for the 38th fastest 13-14 age group performer in history. These performances are a testament to the dedication and talent of NBAC's swimmers, but what makes them truly remarkable is the potential they hold for the future. In my opinion, the club's success at this meet is a sign of things to come, and I can't wait to see what achievements these young athletes will accomplish next. The future of swimming in Maryland looks bright indeed.
