She paid $17,000 for a 30-day adventure, only to receive the final itinerary at 2:38 a.m. on her departure day. The tour's small group nature, a key selling point, was now compromised, leaving her with safety concerns and a refund request.

Janine Navaud and Elizabeth Jennings, two Melbourne women, were also caught in the crossfire. They had paid thousands for an 11-day China tour, only to be left in the dark about their travel plans. The lack of communication and the company's push for credit or date changes further exacerbated their frustration.

The ACCC advises that travelers have rights under the Australian Consumer Law if their travel services are delayed or canceled. They are entitled to a solution, including a replacement or refund. However, the ACCC remains tight-lipped about any ongoing investigations into AVG Travels.

The Australian Travel Industry Association has also weighed in, noting that AVG Travels was removed from its accreditation scheme over six years ago for failing to meet financial and ethical standards.
